The footprint of a 1970's house was used to rebuild on a plot in Swains Lane, Highgate, London by architects Eldridge Smerin. The new house has two distinct facades: one aspect is mostly glazed and overlooks the famous Highgate cemetery (quiet neighbours), while the street elevation is fabricated from black granite, translucent glass and black steel.
Built over four floors with generous proportions of living to bedroom space it includes balconies, terraces, and a sizable sliding glass rooflight enabling the top floor to become an open-air courtyard.
